Monee Village Board Meeting | May 27, 2026

Article Summary: The Monee Village Board on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, approved the purchase of two 2026 Ford Explorer utility squad vehicles for the police department at a total cost of $91,102, bought through a regional purchasing cooperative.

Police Vehicle Purchase Key Points:

  • The board approved buying two 2026 Ford Explorer Utility squads for $91,102.00 from Currie Motors.
  • The purchase runs through the South Suburban Purchase Cooperative, which officials called a cost-effective procurement route.
  • The vehicles will still need emergency lights and equipment installed, all supplied by Federal Signal.

MONEE — The Monee Village Board on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, voted unanimously to purchase two 2026 Ford Explorer utility squad cars for the police department at a combined cost of $91,102.

The purchase was the first item in the administrator’s report. According to the board packet, the request was prepared by Village Administrator Ruben Bautista, who framed it as part of a “proactive and fiscally responsible fleet management strategy.” Under that approach, older police vehicles are reassigned to other village departments to extend their useful life, while the police fleet is replenished through scheduled purchases.

An invoice in the packet from Currie Motors of Frankfort lists two 2026 Ford Explorer Utility vehicles at $45,551 each, for a subtotal of $91,102. The purchase will be made through the South Suburban Purchase Cooperative, a joint procurement arrangement that allows member communities to buy at negotiated pricing.

During discussion, a trustee asked whether the vehicles would be ready to deploy or would need additional work. A village official said the squads would still require emergency lighting and equipment, all of it supplied by Federal Signal — indicating the listed price covers the base vehicles only, not the police outfitting.

The motion to approve passed 5-0, with Trustees Horne, Rakis, Wilson, Youdris and Gonzalez in favor. Trustee Henson was absent.

The purchase is consistent with the village’s continued investment in its public-safety fleet; separate invoices in the meeting’s bills reflect ongoing maintenance spending on existing squad cars and other motorized equipment across departments.
