Crete-Monee Outlasts Rich Township in 25-15 Offensive Slugfest
In a game defined by relentless offensive production, the Crete-Monee varsity softball team emerged victorious in a 25-15 shootout against Rich Township on Thursday.
The two teams combined for 40 runs and 22 hits in a contest that saw momentum swing wildly from the first pitch. Rich Township struck first with an eight-run opening frame, but the Warriors responded immediately. Crete-Monee’s lineup proved unstoppable as the game progressed, erupting for nine runs in both the second and fourth innings to eventually pull away.
T. Ramirez spearheaded the Warriors’ attack with a perfect 5-for-5 performance, including a home run and four RBIs. Raechel Lindsay also enjoyed a banner day at the plate, going 4-for-4 with four RBIs, while C. Sawallisch and Kaylee Slattery combined for six hits and six RBIs to keep the pressure on the Rich Township defense.
Though Rich Township’s offense remained aggressive throughout the afternoon, the Crete-Monee defense settled in after the first inning, playing error-free softball to secure the win. M. Robinson provided a key effort on the mound, entering in relief to strike out five batters and stabilize the game during the middle innings.
