Monee Township Meeting | March 19, 2026

The Monee Township Board of Trustees held a 62-minute regular meeting on Thursday evening to authorize extensive end-of-year budget transfers, approve annual service contracts, and review departmental reports. With Supervisor Donna Dettbarn and Trustees Deborah Burgess, James W. Young, and Billy Morgan present, the board efficiently processed its agenda items and paid the district’s bills for the period of February 20 through March 19. The meeting also featured updates on general assistance numbers, upcoming community shred events, and legal strategies regarding pending tax objection cases. The meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. and adjourned at 8:02 p.m.

Township Plan Commission Discusses Solar Farms
During the Standing Committee reports, the board briefly noted discussions originating from the Township Plan Commission. According to the agenda and minutes, the commission has been reviewing case ZC-25-139, which is specifically related to solar farm developments. No formal action regarding the solar farm zoning was taken by the board during the Thursday meeting.

Attorney Outlines Strategy for Tax Objection Cases
Township Attorney Mario Carlasare delivered a legal update to the board regarding ongoing tax objection cases. Carlasare reported that cases originating from 2018 were previously settled, but cases filed after 2019 are currently coming up on the docket. During the report, the board actively discussed strategies for winning the current tax objection cases to protect township revenues.

General Assistance and Pantry Operations Report
Supervisor Dettbarn delivered the General Assistance report covering the period from February 13 through March 12, 2026. The township processed six intakes and five applications, with no denials. The local food pantry served 49 individuals during this period. Financially, the township distributed $456.00 in General Assistance and $5,657.41 in Emergency Assistance, bringing the total aid for the period to $6,113.41. Under Old Business, it was noted that ongoing renovations to the pantry are “going well.”

Will County Land Use to Host Informational Meeting
The board unanimously approved a request from Will County Land Use to utilize the Township Hall for an upcoming meeting. The informational program, designed for area residents, is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Trustee Morgan motioned to approve the facility use, which was seconded by Trustee Burgess and passed 4-0.

Shred Event Scheduled for June
Trustees approved the scheduling and funding for an upcoming community Shred Event. The document destruction event will take place on Saturday, June 6, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. The board authorized a cost of $1,200 for the service.

Township Receives TOIRMA Dividends
Under New Business, the township formally acknowledged the receipt of annual dividends from the Township Officials of Illinois Risk Management Association (TOIRMA), the district’s insurance provider. The township received a $1,510.00 dividend for the Town fund and a $2,363.00 dividend for the Road fund.

Assessor Resolves Issues with County Executive
Assessor Sandra Heard reported that a recent meeting with the County Executive and the Supervisor of Assessment yielded positive results regarding issues her office had been experiencing with the Supervisor of Assessment. Heard also noted she will be attending an Assessor Conference from March 22 through March 24.

New Alarm System and State Mandates
During her administrative report, Supervisor Dettbarn announced that a new alarm system will soon be installed at the Township facility. Meanwhile, Clerk Bobby Lathan reminded all officials and committee members that their Statement of Economic Interest forms must be filed with the County Clerk’s Office by May 1 to prevent penalties. Lathan noted that five of the fourteen required filers in the township have already completed the mandate.
