Crete-Monee Outlasts Thornwood in Frantic 6-5 Road Victory

The Crete-Monee varsity softball team emerged victorious in a hard-fought conference battle on Wednesday, edging out Thornwood 6-5 on the road. In a game defined by a wildly explosive opening inning, Crete-Monee’s pitching and defense ultimately clamped down to preserve the narrow one-run advantage and secure the win.

The contest began with an offensive fireworks display from both dugouts. Crete-Monee jumped out to an immediate lead in the top of the first inning, executing a massive six-run rally. Raechel Lindsay was a major catalyst for the offense, ripping a pair of doubles and driving in two runs. Meanwhile, Taleaana Ramirez served as an unstoppable force on the basepaths; after going a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with two runs scored, Ramirez stole five bases to keep Thornwood’s defense reeling. Giselle Angulo also contributed a flawless 2-for-2 performance at the plate to help build the early lead.

Thornwood immediately punched back in the bottom half of the first. Sparked by a massive 4-for-4 day from Milan Crain—who tallied a triple and a run scored—and a three-hit outing from Amira Hondras, Thornwood rallied to push five runs across the plate, instantly cutting the deficit to a single run.

However, after the chaotic first inning, the game transformed into a tense defensive standoff. Crete-Monee pitcher Marissa Robinson and Thornwood pitcher Milan Crain both settled into a rhythm, trading scoreless frames in the second and third innings. Despite committing three fielding errors, Crete-Monee made the necessary plays when it mattered most. Robinson stranded Thornwood’s baserunners in the abbreviated contest, slamming the door to finalize the 6-5 victory.
