Stagg Offense Overpowers Crete-Monee in 12-2 Non-Conference Defeat

The Crete-Monee varsity baseball team struggled to contain a potent Stagg offense on Friday afternoon, falling 12-2 in a six-inning, non-conference road contest. The host Chargers capitalized on a relentless 15-hit attack to slowly pull away and enact the run rule, snapping Crete-Monee’s recent winning streak.

Stagg established control early, methodically building their lead with multi-run innings. They struck for two runs in the bottom of the first and followed with a trio of three-run rallies in the second, third, and fourth innings. The constant pressure from the Stagg lineup forced Crete-Monee’s pitchers into long, taxing frames.

Sophomore Gavin Jemilo started on the mound for Crete-Monee, tossing two innings and allowing five earned runs on four hits while walking four. Sophomore Tyler Burnett entered in relief, battling through 3.1 innings and giving up 11 hits and six earned runs. Neither pitcher managed to record a strikeout, and the Stagg baserunners took full advantage, swiping 10 stolen bases to keep themselves in scoring position.

Offensively, Crete-Monee struggled to find their rhythm against the Stagg pitching staff, striking out 10 times on the afternoon. They broke through in the top of the third inning to plate their only two runs of the game. Senior Keyshon James highlighted the brief rally, ripping a double to drive in a run and later scoring. James finished 1-for-3 on the day. Despite the difficult outing, Crete-Monee remained aggressive on the basepaths, converting all five of their stolen base attempts, led by two from Tyler Burnett.
