Clemons Tosses One-Hitter as Crete-Monee Baseball Blanks Thornton 13-0
The Crete-Monee varsity baseball team delivered a comprehensive performance on Wednesday afternoon, overwhelming visiting Thornton for a 13-0 home conference victory. Powered by a brilliant one-hit shutout from senior pitcher Elijah Clemons and an opportunistic offense, Crete-Monee needed just four innings to secure the run-rule win.
Clemons was in total command on the mound, keeping the Thornton lineup off-balance from the opening pitch. The senior right-hander tossed all four innings, yielding just a single hit while striking out six batters and issuing only two walks. He efficiently navigated the opposing order, throwing exactly 60 pitches to earn the victory. Behind him, the Crete-Monee defense was flawless, converting all 18 of their fielding chances without committing a single error.
Conversely, Thornton struggled mightily in the field, committing eight errors that Crete-Monee gladly turned into runs. The hosts jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning before breaking the game wide open with an eight-run eruption in the second. Junior Garrett Jemilo helped anchor the lineup, going 2-for-2 with a double, a run scored, and three RBIs. Senior Keyshon James also tallied three RBIs, while sophomore Wyatt Love delivered a perfect 2-for-2 day at the plate with a double and an RBI.
Crete-Monee also applied relentless pressure on the basepaths, racking up 12 stolen bases as a team. Junior Bryce Milburn led the charge with three steals, while James, junior Carlos Aguilar, and sophomore Tyler Burnett swiped two bases apiece, keeping Thornton’s defense scrambling until the final out.
