Crete-Monee Runs Wild in 17-2 Rout of Thornton Behind 18 Stolen Bases

The Crete-Monee varsity baseball team put on an offensive clinic and wreaked havoc on the basepaths Monday, cruising to a dominant 17-2 road conference victory over Thornton.

Crete-Monee combined timely hitting with aggressive baserunning, racking up an astounding 18 stolen bases and drawing 13 walks to constantly pressure the Thornton defense. The visitors scored in every inning of the five-inning, run-rule shortened contest, jumping out to a quick lead with a four-run first inning and following it up with a five-run second to take total command.

Junior Keegan Quaderer led the offensive onslaught with a perfect day at the plate. Quaderer went 2-for-2 with a pair of doubles, drawing two walks, stealing two bases, driving in three runs, and scoring three times. Senior Keyshon James was a constant disruptive force on the basepaths, swiping a game-high five bags while reaching base four times and scoring three runs. Senior AJ Monegan and junior Carlos Aguilar each contributed two hits and four stolen bases to the relentless attack.

Thornton capitalized on a couple of early miscues to plate two unearned runs in the bottom of the first inning, but that would be all the offense the hosts could muster.

Junior Adonys Ferrell earned the win for Crete-Monee with an overpowering performance on the mound. Ferrell tossed four innings, allowing just one hit and zero earned runs while striking out eight batters. Junior Garrett Jemilo pitched a scoreless inning of relief to securely close out the game.
