Crete-Monee Erupts for 13-Run First Inning in 23-2 Rout of Thornton

The Crete-Monee varsity softball team put on an overwhelming offensive showcase Monday, batting around the order multiple times to secure a 23-2 road conference victory over Thornton in a four-inning, run-rule shortened contest.

The visitors wasted no time taking control, exploding for 13 runs in the top of the first inning. Crete-Monee capitalized on a barrage of hard-hit balls and uncharacteristic defensive struggles from Thornton, stringing together hits to build an insurmountable early advantage.

Crete-Monee’s lineup was relentless from top to bottom, tallying an eye-popping 23 hits. Nadia Love anchored the attack with a perfect 4-for-4 performance at the plate, driving in five runs while crushing two doubles and a triple. Raechel Lindsay also did heavy damage, going 3-for-4 with three doubles and four RBIs.

Leah Guillermo, M. Robinson, and Kaylee Slattery each joined the hit parade with four-hit outings of their own. Guillermo smacked two doubles and scored four times, Robinson scored four runs while driving in two, and Slattery fell just a home run shy of the cycle with a double, a triple, and two RBIs.

While the offense was busy circling the bases, Robinson was overpowering in the circle for Crete-Monee. The starting pitcher tossed all four innings, striking out 10 Thornton batters while allowing just two runs on three hits and a single walk. Out of the 12 outs recorded in the game, Robinson picked up 10 via the strikeout.

Thornton struggled to contain the offensive onslaught, hampered by 11 fielding errors that extended innings and piled on unearned runs. Pitcher Kylee Mcmillion endured a difficult afternoon, absorbing the loss despite only 11 of the 23 runs charged to her being earned.

Offensively, Thornton managed to manufacture a pair of runs through aggressive baserunning. Dreniya Hicks and Ashely Tobal each drew free passes to reach base, swiped three bases apiece, and crossed the plate to break the shutout. Mcmillion provided the lone extra-base hit for the hosts with a double, while Amerria Bush chipped in with a single.
