The Crete-Monee varsity softball team unleashed a staggering 25-hit offensive onslaught on Thursday, outlasting conference rival Bloom in a wild, high-scoring 28-17 home victory.

The marathon contest featured a combined 45 runs and constant shifts in momentum. Bloom set an explosive tone immediately, pushing four runs across in the top of the first inning. Unfazed, Crete-Monee responded with a massive 12-run outburst in the bottom half of the frame and simply refused to slow down.

T. Ramirez and M. Robinson were the primary catalysts for the hosts, combining for eight hits, 10 RBIs, and nine runs scored. Ramirez was perfect at the plate, going 4-for-4 with a home run, three doubles, four RBIs, and five runs scored while drawing a pair of walks. Robinson matched the intensity, finishing 4-for-5 with a home run of her own, a double, and a team-high six RBIs while crossing the plate four times.

The offensive wealth was shared throughout the Crete-Monee lineup. Giselle Angulo, Leah Guillermo, Nadia Love, Debra Wilson, and Raechel Lindsay all recorded multi-hit games. Lindsay and Wilson chipped in with three hits apiece, with Lindsay ripping a pair of doubles and driving in three runs. The team also showcased an incredibly aggressive approach on the basepaths, swiping 10 bases as a unit. Guillermo, Love, Wilson, and Kaylee Slattery led the charge with two stolen bases each.

Despite the heavy early deficit, Bloom kept the pressure on Crete-Monee’s pitching staff. The visitors scored consistently, adding three runs in the second, one in the third, four in the fourth, and five in the fifth to remarkably narrow the Crete-Monee lead to 19-17.

Robinson earned the win in the circle, battling through 3.1 innings of work. When Bloom threatened to completely erase the deficit, C. Sawallisch provided crucial stability in relief. Sawallisch tossed two scoreless innings, allowing just two hits and striking out one to halt the visitors’ momentum.

Clinging to a two-run lead entering the bottom of the sixth, Crete-Monee removed all doubt. The lineup erupted for nine runs in the frame, putting an emphatic end to the slugfest and cleanly securing the 28-17 conference triumph.
