Love’s Two Home Runs, Slattery’s One-Hitter Power Crete-Monee Past Thornridge 17-0

Spread the love

The Crete-Monee varsity softball team delivered an absolute masterclass on Wednesday afternoon, dismantling conference rival Thornridge 17-0 in a four-inning, run-rule shortened home game. Backed by a historic four-homer offensive barrage and a dominant one-hit performance in the circle from Kaylee Slattery, the hosts overpowered the opposition from the first pitch.

The Crete-Monee offense exploded right out of the gate, turning the bottom of the first inning into a track meet. The hosts sent wave after wave of hitters to the plate, capitalizing on extra-base hits and aggressive baserunning to hang a staggering 12 runs on the scoreboard. They followed up the opening barrage with a five-run surge in the second inning, extending the lead to 17-0 and putting the game entirely out of reach.

Nadia Love had a game for the ages to anchor the Crete-Monee lineup. The standout was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate, launching two home runs, driving in an incredible eight runs, and scoring three times. T. Ramirez was equally lethal, finishing 3-for-3 with a home run, a double, and three runs scored. Debra Wilson also joined the home run parade, blasting a four-run shot during her 1-for-2 afternoon to keep the offense rolling.

The extra-base hits were contagious throughout the order. Slattery helped her own cause with a double and a triple, while Leah Guillermo and M. Robinson each added doubles of their own.

Beyond the power display, Crete-Monee was a constant menace on the basepaths, tallying 12 stolen bases as a team. Giselle Angulo and Ramirez led the charge with three steals apiece, ensuring the Thornridge defense had no room to breathe.

Armed with a massive cushion, Slattery took care of the rest in the circle. The Crete-Monee pitcher tossed a complete-game one-hitter over four innings, allowing zero runs while striking out nine Thornridge batters. She effectively navigated around two walks and a hit batsman to seal the dominant shutout victory.
