Peotone Public Library District Meeting | February 19, 2026

The Peotone Public Library District Board of Trustees met on Thursday, February 19, 2026, for a Special Committee of the Whole meeting at 5:30 p.m., followed immediately by a regular board meeting at 6:30 p.m. Library Board President Margaret Horne called the meeting to order. The board advanced several significant initiatives, including the approval of an $11,000 budget for a basic service feasibility study with Product Architecture. The board also addressed personnel matters, officially seeking applicants for a vacant trustee seat, approving job descriptions for the Head of Circulation and Maintenance Engineer, and promoting Anthony J. Kuzma to Marketing & Technology Coordinator following a closed session.

Brief Title: Financial Report and QuickBooks Savings
During the Director’s Report, Library Director Sarah Ehlers informed the board that the district is nearly finished transferring its financial systems to QuickBooks. Ehlers noted that this transition will save the library “a lot of money.” Following the report, the board formally approved the payment of bills payable and a motion to file for audit. Both motions were made by Vice-President Jean Oliver and Secretary Bonnie Patek, respectively, and passed via 5-0 roll call votes.

Brief Title: Closed Session Minutes Kept Closed
The board held a discussion regarding whether to open past closed session minutes and audio recordings to the public or to keep them sealed. Following the review, Trustee Mary Jane Carlson motioned to keep the past closed session minutes and recordings closed. Trustee S. Dascenzo seconded the motion, which passed unanimously with five ayes and one absence.

Brief Title: Maker Space Program Awareness
Under unfinished business, the board held a discussion concerning the library’s Maker Space program. Trustees brainstormed strategies on how to bring more community awareness to the space so that it may more fully benefit the Peotone public. No formal action was taken on the item.
