Haack’s Power and Dundee’s Arm Propel Tinley Park Past Crete-Monee, 12-1

A dominant offensive showcase and lights-out relief pitching carried the Tinley Park varsity softball team to a 12-1 non-conference road victory over Crete-Monee on Tuesday afternoon. The six-inning, run-rule shortened affair was highlighted by early surges and a late offensive explosion from the visitors.

Tinley Park set the tone immediately, plating three runs in the top of the first inning to take control of the contest. They doubled their advantage with another three-run outburst in the third. Junior Aubry Haack led the offensive charge, showcasing her power by finishing 2-for-4 with a double, a home run, and a game-high four RBIs. Junior Leah Cruz was also a constant menace at the plate, going a stellar 3-for-4 with two doubles, three runs scored, and two RBIs.

Crete-Monee struggled to generate offense against Tinley Park’s pitching tandem. After A. McNicholas opened the game in the circle, senior Maddie Dundee entered in relief and completely stifled the home lineup. Earning the victory, Dundee tossed 4.2 scoreless innings, allowing just a single hit and striking out eight batters to halt any Crete-Monee momentum. She also contributed to the offensive onslaught, ripping a double and driving in a run.

Despite the lopsided score, Crete-Monee pitcher Janelle Simpson battled hard in the circle. The senior racked up an impressive 10 strikeouts over six complete innings of work, though she ultimately surrendered 12 earned runs on 14 hits to the potent Tinley Park lineup.

Tinley Park put the game firmly out of reach in the top of the sixth inning, erupting for six runs to trigger the 10-run rule. Senior A. McNicholas and freshmen Makenzy Alejos and C. Horbaczewski each contributed key hits to keep the line moving. Alejos finished the afternoon 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI, while sophomore Sarah Aggen added two hits, including a double, and scored twice.

Crete-Monee broke up the shutout in the bottom of the sixth inning. Kaylee Slattery sparked the late rally with a hit and eventually crossed the plate on an RBI double from Raechel Lindsay. T. Ramirez also provided a bright spot for the hosts, collecting a hit and utilizing her speed to swipe a pair of bases, but the late run wasn’t enough to extend the contest.
