Ramirez Homers, Steals Four Bases as Crete-Monee Offense Overwhelms Thornton Fractional South, 18-8
An unrelenting offensive attack and highly aggressive baserunning powered the Crete-Monee varsity softball team to a decisive 18-8 non-conference victory over visiting Thornton Fractional South on Wednesday.
The Warriors’ lineup was virtually unstoppable, pounding out 13 hits while wreaking havoc on the basepaths with an incredible 18 stolen bases as a team. The game, which was called after five innings, saw Crete-Monee score in every single frame they came to the plate.
T. Ramirez was the offensive engine for Crete-Monee, turning in a spectacular performance. Ramirez went a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate, blasting a home run, driving in four runs, scoring four times, and swiping four bases. Raechel Lindsay also delivered a perfect day at the plate, going 1-for-1 with a home run, drawing two walks, stealing three bases, and coming around to score four times.
M. Robinson continued the onslaught from the batter’s box, going 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles, three runs scored, and four stolen bases of her own. Starting pitcher Kaylee Slattery aided her own cause with a 2-for-3 performance, hitting a double and driving in two runs.
Thornton Fractional South showed early signs of life, pushing two runs across in the top of the first inning to take a brief lead. However, Crete-Monee immediately responded with three runs in the bottom half of the frame and never looked back. The Warriors added four runs in the second inning and erupted for six more in the third to build a commanding 13-2 advantage.
Thornton Fractional South capitalized on a combination of walks and defensive errors to plate six runs in the top of the fourth inning, trimming the deficit to 13-8. However, Crete-Monee quickly silenced the comeback attempt by putting up a five-spot in the bottom of the fourth to restore a ten-run cushion.
In the circle, Slattery earned the start for Crete-Monee. Despite battling control issues and navigating five defensive errors behind her, she managed to strike out five batters over four innings while allowing just one hit. Reliever Janelle Simpson came on in the fifth and pitched a clean, scoreless inning to finalize the 18-8 victory.
