Meeting Summary and Briefs: Monee Village Board of Trustees for February 25, 2026
Monee Village Board of Trustees Meeting | February 25, 2026
Overall Meeting Summary
The Monee Village Board of Trustees convened on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, under the leadership of Mayor Pro-Tem Doug Horne, as the board noted the absence of Mayor Dr. Therese M. Bogs following the recent passing of Irwin Bogs. The board focused heavily on local infrastructure, approving over $950,000 in payouts for the Industrial Drive reconstruction and the 2025 sidewalk improvement projects. Trustees also secured vital land easements to advance the Cleveland Avenue realignment near Blue Beacon and engaged in a spirited discussion regarding the need to rezone commercial properties that contain residential homes to eliminate red tape for homeowners. Readers are encouraged to view the standalone articles for comprehensive details on the infrastructure, zoning, and road realignment discussions.
Executive Assistant Position Created
Following a closed executive session, the board voted unanimously to create a new Executive Assistant position for the village. The new role will be formally implemented in the upcoming Fiscal Year 2027 budget and will carry an annual salary of $45,324.00.
Voortman Steel Minor Subdivision Approved
The board unanimously approved Ordinance #2132, authorizing a minor subdivision application for the property located at 25715 South Ridgeland Avenue, known as the Voortman Steel site. Village Attorney Lawrence R. Gryczewski noted that the Zoning Board of Appeals had already reviewed the subdivision. Because it is classified as a minor subdivision, it did not require a separate public hearing, though the developers must still submit a final plat and comply with all building codes before construction.
Tractor Supply Grand Opening & EV Charging Talks
Trustee Michael Wilson and Trustee Heidi Gonzalez announced that the new Monee Tractor Supply location will host its grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony on Saturday, March 28 at noon. The event will feature local food vendor Terrell’s Eat the Bone. Additionally, Wilson reported that Economic Development Director Bill Barnes is scheduled to meet with a company in the coming weeks to discuss the potential installation of electric vehicle (EV) charging stations within the village.
Monee Officials Prepare for Polar Plunge
Trustee Scott Youdris reminded the community that the Law Enforcement Special Olympics Polar Plunge will take place on March 7 at Lake Manteno. Youdris highlighted that last year, the Monee Police Department raised the most money of any participating department at the Manteno location, and encouraged the public to help break that record this year. Mayor Dr. Therese M. Bogs, Clerk Michelle Powell-Johnson, and Trustee John Henson are among the village officials signed up to plunge into the freezing lake. “If I get $5,000 myself personally… I’ll do it in a pink tutu,” Henson joked during the meeting.
General Fund and Budget Update
Trustee Chuck Rakis provided a brief financial update, reporting that as of February 25, the village’s General Fund showed a monthly revenue of $1.2 million against expenditures of $600,000. Rakis also noted that the village administration is actively drafting the Fiscal Year 2027 budget. Departmental budget meetings have been completed, and the administration will continue refining the numbers in the coming weeks before presenting a balanced budget to the full board.
