MONEE, Ill. — The Monee Village Board of Trustees on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, took a critical step toward fixing a major traffic bottleneck by approving a plat of easement and dedication to realign Cleveland Avenue.
The realignment project, specifically targeting the area near the Blue Beacon truck wash, is designed to straighten the roadway and alleviate the severe congestion caused by commercial trucks.
Village Attorney Lawrence R. Gryczewski explained that the village had to coordinate with both Blue Beacon, which is headquartered in Wichita, Kansas, and the ownership of the neighboring Red Roof Inn, based in Washington state, to finalize the land agreements.
“What we have to do now is sign a plat of easement and a plat of dedication wherein we’re going to straighten out that road hopefully, and it appears as though Blue Beacon and Red Roof has agreed to placing a new sign,” Gryczewski told the board, noting the businesses will cover the cost of the sign replacement. “There is no money coming out of our hands. It’s just that we need this easement and also the plat of dedication to be executed so we can proceed.”
Gryczewski emphasized the urgency of the vote, stating that securing the agreements by spring was vital to ensure the state funding tied to the project was not terminated.
Board members expressed relief that the negotiations had successfully concluded, noting the immediate safety concerns the current road layout presents.
“We need to get something done over there really soon because now that the good weather’s coming, Blue Beacon, the semis and everything have been out onto all the way up and onto Monee-Manhattan [Road], and it’s getting to be a real, real problem over there,” said Trustee Heidi Gonzalez.
The board approved the execution of the easements unanimously.
