Illinois quick hits: Appeals court vacates use of force injunction; Charges filed for possession of sex abuse materials; Gas prices keep rising
Appeals court vacates use of force injunction
The Seventh Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals has vacated U.S. District Court Judge Sara Ellis’ preliminary injunction restricting use of force by federal immigration law enforcement officers in Illinois. In a social media post, U.S. Attorney General Pamela Bondi hailed the ruling as a “huge legal win” for President Donald Trump in support of Operation Midway Blitz. Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul filed a separate lawsuit in January seeking orders to prohibit U.S. Border Patrol from operating in Illinois or supporting Immigration and Customs Enforcement in the state.
Charges filed for possession of sex abuse materials
A Port Byron man is charged with ten counts of unlawful possession of child sexual abuse materials. Illinois State Police say they began investigating Micah Ibara, 22, in November 2025 after special agents received an online tip from a social media platform. The Rock Island County Sheriff’s Office located and arrested Ibara on Thursday.
Gas prices keep rising
According to AAA, the average price for regular unleaded gasoline in Illinois has reached $3.40 per gallon. The price is up from $3.05 per gallon one week ago, before the U.S. armed conflict with Iran began.
