  • The closure of the Village of Monee’s TIF 3 district resulted in a combined payout of $33,447 to township bodies.

  • Township Clerk Bobby Lathan confirmed a property tax referendum will appear on the March 17 election ballot.

The Monee Township Board of Trustees on Thursday, January 15, 2026, announced a notable financial boost following the closure of a nearby Tax Increment Financing (TIF) district, alongside key updates regarding the township’s upcoming election ballot.

During the Supervisor’s Report, Township Supervisor Donna Dettbarn informed the board that the Village of Monee recently closed its TIF 3 district. When a TIF district is retired, the diverted property tax revenues return to the standard tax rolls, often resulting in a surplus distribution to overlapping taxing bodies.

As a result of the TIF 3 closing, the Monee Township Road District received $15,036.00, and the Township itself received $18,411.00 from Will County.

In addition to the revenue update, the board reviewed upcoming electoral and administrative deadlines. During his report, Township Clerk Bobby Lathan confirmed that a Monee Town Referendum regarding property taxes has been successfully filed with the Will County Clerk’s Office and is officially set to appear on the March 17th election ballot.

Lathan also updated the board on several other compliance matters. He noted that he has filed the Township Annual Audit for the period ending March 31, 2025, as well as the Statement of Economic Interest List with the County Clerk’s Office. To maintain public transparency, Lathan requested a publication in the Vedette newspaper for the 2026 Township Meeting to announce the availability of the annual audit.

The updates were presented for informational purposes, and no formal board vote was required on the reports.
