Meeting Summary and Briefs: Crete-Monee School Board for Feb. 10, 2026
Crete-Monee School Board Meeting | Feb. 10, 2026
The Crete-Monee School District 201-U Board of Education Committee of the Whole met on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, to discuss future facility funding and the academic calendar. The meeting was highlighted by a proposal to sell Life Safety Bonds to fund improvements at the high school and Monee Elementary, as well as a decision to recommend a traditional school calendar for 2026-2027 following a split staff survey.
Board members also celebrated recent student achievements in athletics and the arts, specifically the Show Choir Spectacular and wrestling state qualifiers.
KIDS Initiative Spotlight:
President Maurice Brown reported that the district’s implementation of the Kindergarten Individual Development Survey (KIDS) initiative is garnering statewide attention. Brown stated that he attended recent meetings where teachers reported success in connecting Pre-K learning with kindergarten curriculum. “The state is really looking at Crete-Monee 201-U as an example statewide,” Brown said.
MEC Building Sale Update:
During Old Business, Superintendent Dr. Kara Coglianese provided a brief update on the sale of the MEC building. She reported that attorneys for both the district and the buyer are still finalizing contract agreements. “I did speak with the buyer and he… is obviously still interested,” Coglianese said.
Middle School Construction:
The board received an update on the ongoing construction at Crete-Monee Middle School. Board members noted that the project is progressing on schedule and praised the administration for managing the work during the school year without disrupting the educational day. “Miss Chrisos and her staff have been amazing,” President Brown noted.
Public Comment Issue:
A public comment submitted electronically by resident John Puda regarding property taxes was not read into the record during the meeting. President Brown noted that the submission contained a link that was intended to be the body of the comment, but the link was non-functional when checked by the board secretary. Brown invited the resident to resubmit the content for the next meeting.
Wrestling Success:
Dr. Coglianese announced that four male wrestlers qualified for sectionals, which will be held this Friday and Saturday at Hinsdale South. Additionally, the district will host girls’ basketball regionals on February 17 and 19.
