(The Center Square) – Gov. J.B. Pritzker says President Donald Trump owes the families of Illinois and the United States about $2,000 per household for the illegal tariffs he imposed.

Pritzker’s comments came after the U.S. Supreme Court ruled on Friday that the power to levy taxes and duties on Americans rests solely with Congress.

The Liberty Justice Center said the ruling confirms that the president cannot invoke emergency powers to unilaterally set tariff rates.

PRITZKER PUSHES CELL PHONE BAN

Gov. J.B. Pritzker has renewed his call for a cell phone ban in Illinois classrooms.

The governor spoke in Oak Park on Friday to advocate for legislation requiring all school districts and charter schools in Illinois to adopt a policy limiting the use of wireless communication devices on school grounds during the school day.

Senate Bill 2427 was assigned to the Illinois House Education Policy Committee last Tuesday.
