Illinois Quick Hits: Grants issued for apprenticeship programs

(The Center Square) – Gov. JB Pritzker and the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity announced Monday that they awarded more than $17 million in state taxpayer funds to 39 recipients for the expansion of the Illinois Works Pre-Apprenticeship Program.

The program launched in 2021 with the goal of increasing diversity and access to apprenticeship programs in the construction and building trades.

JUVENILE JUSTICE JOB SCREENINGS

The Illinois Department of Juvenile Justice has scheduled nine employment screening events for potential juvenile justice specialist interns.

The agency has full-time job openings at youth centers in Chicago, Warrenville, St. Charles, Grafton, Harrisburg, and Lincoln, with a starting salary of $65,004. Interested applicants must attend a screening event to be considered.

The screening dates and locations are available online.

TREASURER’S AUCTION

The Illinois State Treasurer’s Office is holding an online auction of unclaimed property through Feb. 1.

Available items include a 1918 Centennial Lincoln half dollar, admission tickets from the 1893 World’s Columbian Exposition, comics featuring the Green Lantern and Wonder Woman, and collectible cards featuring sports Hall of Famers like Lou Brock, Ryne Sandberg, Marshall Faulk and Michael Jordan.

A total of 150 lots will be auctioned from an online catalog.
