Crete-Monee School District 201-U Meeting | Jan. 20, 2026

Article Summary: Dr. Perkins presented the results of a recent calendar survey completed by district staff regarding the handling of emergency school closures. The results showed a near-even split between extending the school year and utilizing flex holidays.

Calendar Survey Key Points:

  • Participation: Approximately 450 staff members completed the survey.

  • Option 1 Results: 42.2% favored using emergency makeup days in June, which would extend the school year.

  • Option 2 Results: 41.8% favored attending school on a designated flex holiday with 30 days’ notice.

  • Next Steps: The calendar committee will review the data and present a recommendation in February.

The Crete-Monee School District 201-U Board of Education on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, reviewed feedback from a staff survey concerning the 2026-2027 school calendar.

Dr. Perkins reported that the survey reflected a divided staff on how to handle emergency closures. The results showed 42.2% of respondents preferred using makeup days at the end of the year in June, while 41.8% preferred using designated flex holidays during the year to avoid extending the school year. Approximately 16% of respondents indicated no preference.

“The district carefully reviewed all comments and appreciates the time and thought that went into providing feedback,” Dr. Perkins said, reading a communication sent to staff.

The calendar committee is expected to meet again to discuss the results and bring a final recommendation to the Board of Education at the February meeting. Additionally, the district is monitoring potential legislative changes that could make November 3, 2026, an official midterm election holiday.
