The Monee Village Board of Trustees on Tuesday, December 10, 2025, voted to bring library services directly to residents through a new partnership with the Peotone Public Library District.
The board approved an intergovernmental agreement (IGA) to install “Bibliotheca” book drop and pickup lockers at the Monee Parks and Recreation building on Court Street. The system will allow residents to reserve materials online and pick them up at their convenience, 24 hours a day.
Margaret Horne, a member of the Peotone Public Library Board and a Monee resident, attended the meeting to thank the trustees.
“Thank you for the intergovernmental agreement,” Horne said. “Hopefully the village will enjoy using it.”
According to Village Attorney Larry Gryczewski, the agreement stipulates that the village will maintain the physical area around the lockers, while the library district retains responsibility for the lockers’ maintenance and operation. The agreement includes standard hold harmless clauses.
Trustee Scott Youdris expressed hope that this service is the beginning of a larger expansion of library services in the municipality.
“Maybe this will be the first steps to actually bringing a library to Monee,” Youdris said.
