The Peotone Public Library District Board of Trustees on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, unanimously approved committing $35,000 for a new automated locker unit to be installed in the Village of Monee. The decision marks a major step in extending the library’s reach to patrons who may find it difficult to travel to the main building in Peotone.

The approval came via a 4-0 roll call vote during the board’s regular monthly meeting. Board Vice-President Jean Oliver, who chaired the meeting, and Trustees Susan Chisausky, Mary Jane Carlson, and Bonnie Patek all voted in favor. Trustees Margaret Horne, Sandra Gall, and another trustee identified as S. Dascenzo were absent.

According to committee reports discussed at the meeting, the “Biblioteca locker unit” is slated for installation at the circle drive of the Monee Parks and Recreation building. A verbal agreement was reached with the Village of Monee during a Special Buildings Committee meeting on October 10, wherein the village will pay for the electricity and internet service required to operate the lockers.

The Peotone Public Library District will cover the initial $35,000 purchase price and will be responsible for maintenance costs during the first year of operation. Following the vote, the resolution was signed by Vice President Oliver and Secretary Bonnie Patek.
