Village of Monee Board Meeting | November 19, 2025

Article Summary: The Monee Village Board awarded a $1.59 million contract to Metropolitan Corporation for the second phase of improvements at Firemen’s Park. The project, which came in significantly under the engineer’s estimate, will continue the transformation of the village’s central recreational space.

Firemen’s Park Phase 2 Key Points:

  • Contract Award: Metropolitan Corporation was awarded the contract with a low bid of $1,591,000.

  • Under Budget: The bid was significantly lower than the engineer’s estimated cost of $1.7 million.

  • Project Scope: Phase 2 improvements follow the recently completed Phase 1, which included new sports fields, a playground, and a concession stand.

  • Local Labor: While Metropolitan Corporation will serve as the general contractor, village officials confirmed that all but one of the subcontractors are local firms currently working on other village projects.

The Monee Village Board on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, authorized the next major step in the renovation of Firemen’s Park, awarding a $1.59 million contract for Phase 2 improvements.

Trustees voted unanimously to accept the bid from Metropolitan Corporation, which was the lowest of four bids received. The other bidders included Premier Design and Build Group ($1.73 million), Tenco Excavating ($1 .75 million), and LandWorks Limited ($2.03 million).

Village Administrator Ruben Bautista noted that the winning bid was well under the engineer’s estimate of $1.7 million. He explained that the village exercised its right to waive a technical requirement regarding self-performance of work, as Metropolitan Corporation—operating primarily as a general contractor—demonstrated the ability to successfully manage the project through subcontractors.

“Selecting Metropolitan Corporation is deemed financially advantageous and in the village’s best interest,” Bautista said.

Trustee Heidi Gonzalez questioned whether the subcontractors had been vetted. Max, a representative from Farnsworth Group, confirmed that they have a list of all subcontractors and that “all of them except for one are currently working on village projects.”

This phase follows the successful completion of Phase 1, for which the board also approved a final pay request of $951,243.45 to Piggush Simoneau Inc. during the same meeting. That payment covers work completed through late October, including the new playground and ballfields.
