Village of Monee Board Meeting | October 8, 2025

Meeting Summary: The Monee Village Board of Trustees met on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, to address infrastructure payments, legal matters regarding development, and future meeting schedules. The board authorized over $345,000 in payments for lighting and sidewalk improvements. Strategically, the board voted to dissolve TIF District 3, transferring its remaining funds and a $1 million surplus to the active TIF District 5. Additionally, the board updated legislation to facilitate the acquisition of land for the Cleveland Avenue road realignment and announced a new $560,000 grant for the project.

Board Meeting Schedule Change:
The board voted to modify the meeting schedule for the upcoming holiday season. In November and December, the board will meet only on the second Wednesday of the month (November 12 and December 10), foregoing the meetings typically held the day before Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Hotel Incentive Update:
Attorney Larry Gryczewski updated the board on negotiations with Ms. Patel regarding TIF incentives for the Quality Inn and Super 8 hotels. Ms. Patel has withdrawn a request for a clause that would have waived payback requirements if another hotel opened in the village. Negotiations are ongoing, with no action taken at this meeting.

Tractor Supply Construction:
Trustee Michael Wilson reported that construction on the new Tractor Supply Co. store is progressing on schedule. Walls are up, and the roof structure is next, with the goal of enclosing the building before winter. An early February 2026 opening is still anticipated.

Schoop’s Hamburgers Closing:
Trustee Wilson announced that Schoop’s Hamburgers has closed after over 20 years in Monee due to the owners’ retirement. Economic Development Director Bill Barnes is actively working with the plaza owners to find a new “quality sit-down restaurant” to fill the vacancy.

Public Safety Update:
Trustee Scott Youdris reported that the Emergency Management Agency (EMA) responded to a struck gas line on Cherry Lane on September 30, closing the road for three hours. The EMA also recently upgraded the generator on their command trailer to better protect sensitive electronic equipment.

Personnel Move:
Following an executive session, the board voted unanimously to move Jim Paicz in the Building Services department to a full-time position.
