Spread the love

Article Summary: The Peotone Public Library and the Village of Monee have tentatively selected the circle drive at the Monee Parks and Recreation building as the site for a new library locker system. In a verbal agreement, the village has committed to covering the ongoing utility costs for the project.

Library Locker Project Key Points:

  • The preferred location for the 17-unit locker system is the circle drive at the Monee Parks and Recreation building.

  • The Village of Monee has verbally agreed to pay for the initial wiring and the monthly electric and Wi-Fi bills.

  • The Peotone Public Library District will be responsible for the initial purchase cost and ongoing maintenance of the locker unit.

  • The project provides a convenient pickup point for Monee residents who live within the Peotone library’s service area.

PEOTONE, IL – The plan to bring a library smart locker system to Monee took a major step forward on Friday, October 10, 2025, after library officials and Village of Monee leaders agreed on a preferred location and a cost-sharing partnership.

During a special meeting held at the Monee Village Hall, members of the Peotone Public Library District’s Buildings Committee, including Sarah Ehlers, Susan Chisausky, and Mary Jane Carlson, met with Monee Mayor Dr. Therese M. Bogs and Village Administrator Ruben Bautista.

The group identified the circle drive next to the Monee Parks and Recreation building as the most suitable location for the proposed 17-unit locker system from vendor Bibliotheca. The site is already a community hub, hosting the library’s book drop, a mail drop box, a UPS drop box, and a Micro Pantry.

A significant outcome of the meeting was a verbal agreement on how to fund the project’s operational needs. According to the meeting minutes, the Village of Monee agreed to pay for the necessary electrical wiring as well as the ongoing monthly electric and Wi-Fi bills. The library district will remain responsible for the initial purchase price and the future maintenance of the locker unit itself.

Following the formal meeting, committee members, joined by Library Board President Margaret Horne, visited the proposed site at Fireman’s Park to confirm its suitability. The committee will now provide the village with the locker system’s dimensions so that a concrete pad can be prepared for the installation.
