Article Summary: The Peotone Public Library District is moving forward with a plan to purchase and install a $25,000 smart locker system in Monee, providing a convenient pickup point for residents who live within the library’s service area. The committee is now working with the Village of Monee to determine a final, secure location for the lockers.

Peotone Library Monee Expansion Key Points:

  • The library’s Building Committee has endorsed spending $25,000 for a locker system from vendor Bibliotheca.

  • The project will be paid for from a dedicated $49,000 account for services in Monee.

  • A survey will be included in the Monee Fall Newsletter to raise awareness that most of the village is part of the Peotone library district.

  • The library will propose either the new or old Monee Town Hall as potential locations for the lockers.

PEOTONE, IL – The Peotone Public Library District’s Building Committee on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, advanced a plan to purchase a $25,000 smart locker system to better serve residents in Monee.

The project aims to provide a convenient, local pickup location for library materials for Monee residents, a significant portion of whom live within the Peotone Public Library District’s boundaries. To raise awareness, the committee decided to include a flyer in the upcoming Monee Fall Newsletter with a QR code linking to an online survey. The flyer will pointedly ask, “Did you know you have a library? Most of Monee falls under the Peotone Public Library District.”

During the meeting, the committee discussed that the final bid from the preferred vendor, Bibliotheca, had increased to $25,000 from an initial estimate of $17,000. The new price includes shipping and installation costs. The committee agreed to fund the purchase using a dedicated “Monee account” that currently holds $49,000.

With funding and a vendor selected, the final step is to secure a location. According to the minutes, committee member Sarah Ehlers will schedule a meeting with officials from the Village of Monee to discuss placement. The committee will suggest either the new or old Monee Town Hall as potential sites, emphasizing the need for a “secured area protected from the weather.”
