Monee Township Board Meeting | July 2025

The Monee Township Board met on Thursday, July 17, 2025, to conduct monthly business, including the approval of financial reports and discussion of upcoming community events. The meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. by Supervisor Donna Dettbarn. All board members were present, including Trustees Deborah Burgess, James W. Young, Terri L. Boles, and Billy Morgan, as well as Clerk Bobby Lathan.

Also in attendance were Assessor Sandra Heard, Collector Ronald Poindexter, Attorney Mario P. Carlasare, and Administrator Willa Simmons. The Board voted unanimously to approve the minutes from the June 19 meeting and authorized the payment of bills for the period of June 20 through July 17. The meeting adjourned at 8:23 p.m.

Vaccination Event Cancelled:
The Board announced that the “Vaccination Mobile Van Event” from the Will County Health Department, originally scheduled for Wednesday, August 6, has been cancelled. The cancellation was attributed to a lack of funding for the event.

Assessor’s Appeals Window:
Assessor Sandra Heard reported that the property tax appeal window is now open. Appeals will continue through August 15, 2025. Heard also noted that 2027 will be a Quadrennial Year for assessments.

Emergency Assistance Spending:
Supervisor Dettbarn reported that from June 13 to July 14, the township processed 17 intakes and 8 applications for assistance. While no funds were spent on General Assistance, the township distributed $3,253.87 in Emergency Assistance (EA). The pantry served 47 residents during this period.

Public Comment on Elevate Hope:
Resident Janet Blue addressed the Board during the public comment section. She thanked the officials for donating funds to Elevate Hope, a contribution that was approved during the June meeting.

Parade Participation:
The Township plans to participate in the Village of University Park “Back to School Celebration and Parade” on Saturday, August 16, 2025. Clerk Lathan volunteered to drive a car representing the township in the parade.
