Village of Monee Board Meeting | August 13, 2025

Meeting Summary: The Monee Village Board of Trustees met on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, for a session dominated by significant infrastructure investments and real estate transactions. The board authorized over $2.4 million in payments related to water main projects and facility repairs, including a $1.76 million payout for the Ridgeland and Bruns Road water redundancy project. Additionally, the board approved the replacement of the Village Hall fire sprinkler system.

On the real estate front, the trustees approved the purchase of two properties on Monee-Manhattan Road and initiated condemnation proceedings for a third. A bid to purchase a property on Governors Highway was tabled pending appraisal review. The meeting concluded with an executive session regarding legal counsel and property acquisition, followed by a vote to engage a new law firm.

Appropriation Ordinance Approved:
Following a public hearing with no objections, the board unanimously approved Ordinance #2092, the Appropriation Ordinance for the fiscal year beginning May 1, 2025, and ending April 30, 2026. This ordinance sets the legal spending limits for the village’s operations for the fiscal year.

Water Consumption Monitoring:
Trustee Doug Horne reported that the Public Works Department has identified 140 water accounts with abnormal usage trends so far in 2025, indicating potential leaks. The village has successfully contacted 116 of those property owners. Horne noted that 25 residents requested service appointments to identify issues, helping prevent costly utility bills and water waste.

Fall Fest Preparations:
Trustee Heidi Gonzalez announced that preparations for Fall Fest are nearly complete, with only 23 days remaining until the event. Recent improvements at the park include the installation of sod on the football field and new volleyball nets. The board also approved a request from the Knights of Columbus to conduct their annual Tootsie Roll Drive from September 19 through September 21.

Tractor Supply Construction Update:
Trustee John Henson reported that Tractor Supply has been issued permits to begin full site construction. The excavation is well underway, with two large retention ponds already dug out. Due to dry conditions, landscaping may be delayed until early spring, but the store remains on track to open in late January or early February 2026.

New Legal Counsel:
Following an executive session, the board voted unanimously to have Mayor Therese Bogs request an engagement letter from the law offices of Burke, Burns & Pinelli, Ltd. for review. This signals a potential transition in the village’s legal representation.
