Village of Monee Board Meeting | August 13, 2025

Article Summary: The Village of Monee moved forward with strategic real estate acquisitions on Monee-Manhattan Road but decided to postpone action on a bid for a property on Governors Highway. The board also initiated condemnation proceedings for a parcel at a key intersection.

Real Estate Transactions Key Points:

  • Purchases Approved: The board approved the purchase of 5616 Monee Manhattan Road for $220,000 and 5660 Monee Manhattan Road for $180,000.

  • Bid Postponed: A $120,000 bid for 25777 S. Governors Highway was tabled pending a review of the appraised value.

  • Condemnation: Trustees passed an ordinance authorizing condemnation proceedings for property located at Monee-Manhattan Road and Cleveland Avenue.

The Monee Village Board on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, authorized the purchase of two properties and initiated legal proceedings to acquire a third, while delaying a decision on a fourth parcel.

The board voted unanimously to pass Ordinance #2093, authorizing the purchase of real estate at 5616 Monee Manhattan Road for $220,000. Immediately following, they approved Ordinance #2094 to purchase the property at 5660 Monee Manhattan Road for $180,000.

Additionally, the board adopted Ordinance #2095, which authorizes condemnation proceedings regarding property located at the intersection of Monee-Manhattan Road and Cleveland Avenue.

However, the board hesitated on a bid received for a village-owned property at 25777 S. Governors Highway. Village Attorney Larry Gryczewski presented a single bid from Keith and Tracey Macaluso in the amount of $120,000. The bid included a stipulation that a house would be built on the site within one year.

Trustees expressed concern regarding the bid amount relative to the property’s value.

“I’d feel more comfortable… if we could table this until we get the appraised value,” Trustee Charles Rakis said.

Consequently, the board voted to postpone the decision until the appraisal information could be reviewed.
