In a back-and-forth battle that came down to the final innings, the Rich Township varsity baseball team secured a 10-9 victory over Crete-Monee on Wednesday.

The game began with a flurry of action as Crete-Monee jumped out to an early 5-0 lead in the first inning. Rich Township methodically chipped away at the deficit, scoring four runs in the third and one in the fourth to keep the contest within reach. The Knights eventually leveled the score and pulled ahead with a decisive three-run rally in the bottom of the sixth, which proved to be the difference-maker.

Rich Township’s offense was led by Cavion Danley, who went a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with two runs scored and an RBI. J. Bohannon also contributed two hits and two RBIs, while the team utilized aggressive base running—stealing nine bases—to put constant pressure on the Warriors’ defense.

Crete-Monee stayed competitive until the very end, rallying for two runs in the top of the seventh, but they were unable to overcome the late deficit. Tyler Burnett powered the Warriors’ effort at the plate with a double and four RBIs, while Chris Schubbe added two hits.

Kobe Burnette earned the win for Rich Township, providing five solid innings of relief while striking out three.
