Quaderer’s Gem, Dynamic Baserunning Propel Crete-Monee Past Thornwood 12-0

The Crete-Monee varsity baseball team delivered a comprehensive five-inning, 12-0 shutout victory over conference opponent Thornwood on Wednesday afternoon. Driven by a stellar pitching performance from junior Keegan Quaderer and an aggressive, base-stealing offense, Crete-Monee systematically dismantled the visiting Thunderbirds to enact the run rule.

Quaderer was masterful on the mound, keeping the Thornwood lineup off-balance and inducing weak contact throughout the entire game. He tossed all five innings, allowing just two hits and zero walks while striking out seven batters on a highly efficient 57 pitches. Behind him, the Crete-Monee defense was perfectly aligned, converting all 17 fielding chances without a single error to preserve the shutout.

The Crete-Monee offense complemented Quaderer’s dominance by applying constant pressure on the Thornwood defense. The hosts utilized patience at the plate—drawing 10 walks—and aggressive tactics on the basepaths to manufacture runs. They successfully stole 14 bases as a team, led by a remarkable five steals from senior Walter Johnson. Senior Chris Schubbe, senior Keyshon James, and sophomore Carter Graham each added two steals. This relentless approach forced Thornwood into three costly defensive errors, compounding the Thunderbirds’ struggles.

At the plate, sophomore Wyatt Love was perfect, going 3-for-3 with a double and three RBIs to pace the Crete-Monee attack. James also tallied a multi-hit performance, finishing 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI. The offense struck early with a three-run first inning, then blew the game open with a five-run surge in the fourth and a three-run rally in the fifth to solidify the 12-0 blowout.
