The Crete-Monee Board of Education on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, executed a mid-term reorganization of its officer positions following the formal resignation of Board Vice President Alejandro Gallegos from his leadership role.
Gallegos, who will continue to serve out his term as a standard board member, submitted a letter of resignation from the vice presidency earlier in the week. Board President Maurice Brown noted that expanding professional obligations prompted the change.
“Alex was doing an excellent job,” Brown said. “His job was taking him to some extraordinary measures that prohibit him from doing the things that he would like to have done. He has no intentions of leaving the board; he’s going to do whatever he could in the board member capacity until things may change with his employment.”
To fill the vacancy, Board Secretary Jamie Zite-Stumbris submitted her own resignation from the secretarial role. She was subsequently nominated by Brown to take over as the new Board Vice President. The board approved the appointment unanimously.
“She did not resign the position because she did not like it. On the contrary, she loved it, and she’s positioned herself to even add that much more fuel to our dynamic board,” Brown said of Zite-Stumbris’s transition.
With the secretary seat open, the board unanimously approved the nomination of Board Member Janine Woolfolk to step into the role of Board Secretary. Woolfolk accepted the nomination “with open arms.”
“I think we’re not going to miss a beat with the duties of the board secretary,” Brown told Woolfolk following the vote. “I no longer will call you sophomore [board member]. Now I have to instill the phrase ‘Madam Secretary’.”
