Illinois quick hits: Report: Paroled six-time felon charged in shootings
Report: Paroled six-time felon charged in shootings
Prosecutors have charged a paroled six-time felon with shooting a woman inside a Chicago apartment and then trying to shoot police officers who chased him into an alley.
CWB Chicago reports that Pierre Davis, 28, was seriously wounded when officers returned fire last Friday evening. The encounter came after Davis was accused of shooting a woman in the arm, leaving her hospitalized in good condition.
Court records show Davis was released from prison in September after serving part of a three-year sentence for resisting police. His prior felony convictions include bribery, aggravated battery of a peace officer, and aggravated domestic battery.
Reckless homicide charge filed
Illinois State Police special agents have arrested a Chicago Heights man in connection with a stolen-vehicle crash on Interstate 57 last year.
Demitreaun Ross, 20, is charged with reckless homicide, failure to report a crash resulting in death, and criminal trespass to a motor vehicle.
ISP agents say they identified Ross as the driver of a stolen vehicle involved in a two-vehicle collision on I-57 near 167th Street in January 2025. ISP says three people were ejected from the other vehicle, including one who died.
Online commercial truck renewal
Commercial trucking firms based in Illinois can now renew their federal registration credentials online. The Illinois Secretary of State’s office says companies with fewer than 250 vehicles can complete International Registration Plan renewals by uploading their IRS-issued Heavy Vehicle Use Tax Form 2290 and submitting payment electronically.
More information about IRP renewals and online services are available at www.ilsos.gov.
