Village of Monee Board Meeting | November 19, 2025

Meeting Summary: The Monee Village Board of Trustees met on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, for a session highlighted by major investments in parks and commercial development. The board awarded a $1.59 million contract for Phase 2 of Firemen’s Park and approved over $1 million in reimbursements for the Tractor Supply Company project. Trustees also handled routine financial matters, including the purchase of road salt for the upcoming winter.

The meeting featured updates on local business developments, including the groundbreaking of a new plumbing business and renovations at local hotels. Public comments praised the board’s recent work while raising safety concerns about a drop-off near the park pavilion.

Salt Purchase Approved:
The board passed Resolution #2025-3 authorizing the purchase of 720 tons of bulk road salt for $48,643.20. The salt was secured through the state bid at a rate of $67.56 per ton, a decrease from the previous year’s price of $76.75.

New Personnel Hired:
Following an executive session, the board voted to hire a new Parks and Recreation Supervisor at an annual salary of $52,000. Additionally, the board promoted an executive administrative assistant to full-time status with a salary of $65,000 and authorized the posting of a full-time mechanic position.

Voortman Steel Progress:
Economic Development Director Bill Barnes reported that the new Voortman Steel facility is making rapid progress. The 120,000-square-foot building has a “sleek, modern look,” and concrete pouring has begun inside. The company aims to move into the facility by early April 2026.

Rockland Plumbing Groundbreaking:
Trustee Michael Wilson announced that Rockland Plumbing has broken ground on its new facility on Wilson Street. The foundation has been poured, and the building structure is expected to go up in the next two weeks.

Safety Concern at Park:
Resident Rich Farmer raised a safety concern during public comment regarding a drop-off near the sidewalk and pavilion at Firemen’s Park. “I keep seeing somebody standing there talking all of a sudden backing up and falling. That’s a big drop,” Farmer said, suggesting a rail be installed. Administrator Bautista agreed to have Public Works look into the issue.

Pet Food Giveaway:
Trustee Heidi Gonzalez announced a pet food drive-thru giveaway scheduled for December 13. The event, a partnership with Huckleberry’s Snack Shack, aims to help residents feed their pets during the holiday season. Donations of food and supplies are being accepted at the Village Hall.
