Meeting Summary and Briefs: Peotone Public Library District Board for June 17, 2025

Spread the love

The Peotone Public Library District Board of Trustees tackled significant issues at its June meeting, highlighted by news of a potentially “enormous” cost to repair major plumbing infrastructure in the library building. The board is seeking a second opinion before proceeding. In another major development, the board is forming a committee to explore the possibility of establishing a library building in Monee, a move that could significantly expand its services. For more details, see the full stories on these topics.

The board also formalized its internal governance by approving new policies on spending authority and a code of conduct for trustees. Routine business included approving minutes, paying bills, and filing the financial report for audit.

Maker Space Policy Approved
The board unanimously approved a new policy for the library’s Maker Space. The policy will provide clear guidelines for the use of the creative and technical equipment available to the public in that area. The approval helps formalize operations for one of the library’s popular modern features.

Non-Resident Fee Set at $112
Trustees voted to approve the library’s non-resident fee for the upcoming year, setting it at $112. The motion was passed unanimously by all six members present. This annual fee allows individuals living outside the library district’s legal boundaries to purchase a card and access the library’s services.

Landscaping Quote Tabled
A decision on a landscaping quote for the library grounds was tabled until a future meeting. The board opted to postpone the vote to allow for further review of the proposal. No date was set for when the topic will be revisited.

Unique Collection Service Canceled
As part of its approval of the monthly bill payments, the board authorized the cancellation of The Unique Collection Service. The service is a company that libraries sometimes use to recover long-overdue materials or fines. The reason for the cancellation was not discussed during the meeting.
