Police Department to Add Two New Squads: The board approved the purchase of two 2024 Chevrolet Tahoe Police Utility Squads for a total of $114,128. The purchase will be made from Currie Motors through the South Suburban Purchase Cooperative. The new vehicles will replace a 2019 and a 2020 patrol unit, which will be reassigned to the village’s Emergency Management Agency (EMA), extending their useful life within the village’s fleet.

New Ordinances Regulate Firearms, Solar Farms: Trustees unanimously passed two new ordinances. Ordinance 2087 amends village code regarding the discharge of firearms, creating exceptions for law enforcement, citizens acting in self-defense, and patrons of a licensed indoor gun range. Ordinance 2088 establishes new regulations for commercial solar farms, including a 500-foot setback from residential properties, screening requirements, and rules for decommissioning, after a company expressed interest in developing a farm in the area.

Historical Society Granted Liquor License: The Monee Historical Society was granted a one-day liquor license for its annual Art Auction & Wine Reception fundraiser. The event is scheduled for Saturday, August 9, from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Heritage Center. The society provided the village with a certificate of liability for the ticketed event, where wine, cheese, and charcuterie boards will be available for attendees.

Four Water Main Breaks Repaired After Heat Wave: The Public Works department responded to four separate water main breaks between June 28 and July 7. The breaks, all on 6-inch mains, occurred in the vicinity of Brier Lane, William Street, Main Street, and Chestnut Road. Village staff, with assistance from M&J Underground on one complex repair, completed all the work. The department is now coordinating asphalt patching for the affected areas.

Annual Kids Day Set for Saturday: The village’s annual Kids Day event will take place this Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon at Firemen’s Park. The free event will feature a “Touch a Truck” display with vehicles from the police, fire, public works, and other agencies. Activities include a bounce house, petting zoo, contests, and complimentary hot dogs, chips, and water while supplies last.
